Lucy In The Sky With Drones?

The future is definitely here and the Chula Vista Police Department is considering becoming apart of the neomodern movement. CVPD is considering using small drones equipped with video cameras beginning this summer. The Department expects this will be a helpful tool when searching for missing elderly people and children, as well as at the scene of traffic accidents, fires and more. Police are currently putting together a draft operation policy manual for drone use, after researching what other law enforcement agencies have done. The drones will be deployed in accordance with the final approved policy, and thankfully, will not be used for random surveillance activities. Who wants a camera watching them from the sky!? Freaky! Out of respect for people’s privacy and civil liberties, the police will be required to obtain consent or search warrants to use drones where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.
