Chula Vista is one of the fastest growing city in the state of California with population of over 250000. The city is the 7th largest city in the California and is located just few miles from San Diego. Apart from its close proximity to San Diego, Mexican border is also just 8 miles away, which provides tremendous opportunities for economical development of the city.
At present, Tourism serves as an economic engine for Chula Vista. As the name suggests –Chula Vista means “beautiful view” – the city offers a wide array of attractions and activities to entertain visitors and residents year round. With moderate weather throughout the year, one can experience and enjoy miles of trails, coastline and mountains, along with other outdoors enthusiasts. For nature lovers, the city also has bayfront with the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and the Living Coast Discovery Center. One can Cycle the Bayshore Bikeway and see more wonders on San Diego Bay. For music fans, city of Chula Vista offers San Diego County’s premiere outdoor music venue- “Sleep Train Amphitheatre” where world class entertainers perform very often. And for sports enthusiasts the city has nation’s only warm weather Olympic Training Center, where one can see America’s best amateur athletes practice for the upcoming Olympics. Apart from all these locations, one can also visit Chula Vista Nature Center, Otay Valley Regional Park, OnStage Playhouse, the Chula Vista Marina, Chula Vista center and the Third Avenue Village
Mary Casillas Salas is the incumbent City Mayor. Elected in 2014, she is the first Latina mayor in Chula Vista and the County of San Diego. Steve Miesen is serving as the deputy mayor. Appointed in January 2015, Mr. Miesen has a bachelor’s degree in Government-Journalism from California State University and has completed courses in management, computer network design and installation. John McCann, Patricia Aguilar and Pamela Bensoussan are the three council members. Gary Halbert is the current city manager. With more than 30 years of experience in local government, Mr. Halbert was appointed Chula Vista City Manager in June 2014. Deputy Mayors post is being served jointly by Maria Kachadoorian and Kelley Bacon. Both of them have more than 25 years of experience in public sactor. Apart from them, Glen Googins is the incumbent City Attorney and Donna Norris is the serving as the city clerk. The city of Chula Vista was incorporated in 1911.
